While my children started “leaving the nest”, so to speak, I ruminated on the ways that we expect things from one another in a family. Love and respect are unconditional and understood.
Academic and career choices, goals and “success” are another thing altogether. It seems that as parents, we are programmed to put as much effort into creating “success” for our children as we are into loving them… I was investigating these expectations with this piece.
