What Will You Give Me If I Let You Down?

The fluctuating nature of domestic relationships is at the heart of this piece. When I was a kid, we used to play on see-saws at the park all the time…if you were the light one, on top, you were at the mercy of the heavier player. We used to have a game that was probably very commonplace in parks across the country, the heavier player would chant, “Mister Brown, Mister Brown, what will you give me if I let you down?…” A lot of Halloween candy and bike rides on the back of banana seats were won and lost in this game…
