Raising teenagers for me was much like being in the center of 3 ring circus. Managing a houshold, two dogs, one cat, sevaral part time teaching gigs and a full time studio practice was “interesting”… One exhausted evening, coming home with a grocery store roasted chicken, I was greeted by a very large offspring of mine and  a comment about the chicken probably ‘Not even being organic’…

I was deflated and exhausted…apparently trying to perform dinner with some kind of retail slight of hand. This particular child then proceeded to poke me in the arm and exclaim, “What kind of mother are you anyway?”

Titles are important for me. I took this comment and stowed it away in my sketchbook and related my personal circus to the clowns that don giant heads during ring changes… distract, entertain and engage while the logistics of the real show are going on all around them.
