How To… This piece came about through a discussion with a colleague . I was in awe of the way that she successfully guided her child into adulthood.
I was in the throes of rearing teenagers and I was struggling mightily.
She told me to “Be like Air”, there when the child needs it, never too much, just enough to sustain and encourage life.
I internalized this advice and began by making cherry blossoms representing beautiful moments that we had shared… the infrastructure for a life had been carefully laid down over years, moment by moment, joys and trials, banal and momentous. Invisible yet present.
The way this piece floats gracefully is emblematic of the sweetness and light of letting go.
