This piece came about after we spent some time in the Netherlands. I was astounded by the architecture in Delft, Amsterdam and the surrounding area. The way that the houses were built particularly affected me. The narrow and tall structures had hooks outside of the upstairs windows. They were used with pulley systems to bring things into the homes because the stairways were much too narrow. I was intrigued by the utility and ingenuity of this.
The intentionality of choosing very specifically what to bring into your “Home” and what to cherish resonated deeply with me.
I cast the hook in sterling silver. The nest , hammer and ladder on the backside are all cast in glass.
