Groundwork

Groundwork is part of a series that examines the many banal tasks and moments that add up to build a life. The meditative process of creating individual blades of grass and placing them onto the house form was deeply introspective. I have used the grass image in my work as a symbol of domesticity, controlled and cultivated growth.

Casting the hammer in this amber colored glass was another layer of content for me. I love the dichotomy that the delicate nature of glass has combined with the affordance of the hammer. The amber lends itself to a relic, something ancient, a frozen moment in time.

The work we do in building a HOME is the most important work of all.
