This piece is a meditation on building a life and a "Home"... The hidden yet important groundwork done in order to have peace and an infrastructure for growth... The clay portion was built at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis during a short residency this past March, right before the Covid 19 pandemic took hold in our Country. The hammer was cast from some juicy amber glass that was in the tank at the Cleveland Institute of Art during the summer of 2019 when I was teaching a workshop there... I asked a friend, Zac Gorell, who was managing the hot shop to save me some for a hammer I needed to cast. The piece was then finished this summer, 2020. Sometimes my pieces span years, like the work of building a home and a life.
